I’m a ready-made, mechanical procedure
Like mutable occasion, a breather
I pause—to inhale
In the clause of my tale
And wow, we write it down
Generations applaud my sloth
Is it all that I got?
I don’t know
I’m over determined and overstuffed
in the slippery syntax of my gruff
Langston Huges used to call it design
But now it’s possible for us to waste our time
Involve yourself in the mess
Accommodate the rest
Resist yourself at the front of your tongue
You’ve got to Disrupt
Everything you’ve ever thought…it sure is a lot!
It’s preauthorized
Anticipated demise
It’s a mutable occasion
Of our frustrations!
Detangling symbolism
In the colors of our prisms
You know we’ve been entertaining ourselves with these lies
Cracking smirks for supplies
The word—a book!
Who’s got a spool of tape?
The vice—yet a look!
Who’s hot & cooled sedate?
It’s a revelation just to try to make it frightening
I am myself only when I’m doubtful and I’m distracted
By the solidarity they are forcing down on me
Like a sentence with structure, intimate vocabulary
Springing commonality between you and me
Is it an excess of doubt and distraction?
Am I laughing, am I laughing, am I laughing?
Or simply punctuated?

i will try my best just to stay focused
on what it is i've been hired to do
i plug it in
i pull it out
subtle forces build our doubts
in the people we once had trusted
no first woman on the moon
no stained glass haiku
'cause letting down the spirit was my decision
and i'm both the villain and the victim
well it's peace busy peace
regardless of teeth
remove all my genders
and spoil out my name
neither loser nor winner
'cause i'm tired of the game
yes it's peace busy peace
and i am still me
just a piece of a piece
and the whole infinity
i will try my best just to stay humbled
by what it is i've been hired to achieve
i plug it in
i pull it out
subtle forces build our doubts
in the people we once had trusted
but i'm both ironed out and combusted....

High Mirrors
04:36
|

downtown streets bounce the echo
of all place and all time
revolt's static glow
television multiplied
i'm dressing up to drink highballs
a man glosses all his mind,
"there's nothing wrong with this cat call
the pretty ladies--they just like the vibe"
oh! what a suburban lifestyle
bursting with those floral dresses
lawyers and doctors they reconcile
a system that oppresses
she was over 30
put her hair up in a bun
knew her way around the office
controlled the warmth of a gun
with hair trimmed above their ears
matched in style and in grace
men will conform and fall into fear
their laughter locked up inside of their rage
there's no selling my emotions
when they get all tangled up in legs
death and life mirror devotion
to some higher realm of praise...
she was over 30
put her hair up in a bun
knew her way around the office
oh! she loves--she loves everyone
i will sell my soul to Death
give it all from breath to breath
i am not what they expect
AT ALL

now i...i remember
little brother up to his knuckles in the water
and i...i was whispering
sister--
you've gotta help me out
gotta pull him up out of here
in the bungalow
on the hillside
i was praying for the buffalo
i was struggling
i was reaching
but brother still slipped down into the whirlpool
...
...
you are the one
like a mule
kicking and spitting up the dust
cause every single muscle
has to pull the moment closer
until you've got it mastered under your control
cause the hope's in the hoping
as the go continues going
where redemption is redeemed
by the dreamer's ever dreamed
